The crab cakes were on par with what you'd expect to find at other seafood restaurants, with a good portion of crab and a decent batter holding it altogether. The two crab cakes are fairly small, but considering the order is roughly $9 with two sides, you won't find those prices anywhere else in the city- at least not anywhere remotely near Market Square. Only open a couple of years, The Edge is already making a name for itself with a few of its menu items, such as the seafood gumbo, mahi tacos, baked oysters and duck jalapeno poppers. The Skybar, an adult-only rooftop bar, has couches, an open fire pit and is a great place to enjoy a drink and watch the sunset, boats and even a fireworks show. It also offers happy hour specials on cocktails and small plates every night from 4 to 6 p.m. But as for the original, it still serves up fried and grilled baskets full of fresh seafood with corn-on-the-cob and new potatoes with the grilled baskets and French fries and hush puppies for the fried baskets.

Not many people know this, but the oysters at Mariscos Jalisco are incredible. Of course, no visit is complete without their signature tacos or ceviches, but next time you’re here, add an oyster or two to whatever you order. On our visit we decided to hold out on the famous sandwiches and instead go with the seafood platters, namely the Key West oysters and the crab cakes in order to get a feel for the restaurant's straight seafood offering. These come with a really pepper-lime mignonette and go great with their long list of natural wines. This place is bright and airy, and remains shockingly tourist-free for how close it is to the beach (if you’re sitting in the right seat, you can see the water). It is worth noting that the majority of the menu at the Original Oyster House contains fried seafood. If you're looking for a fresh cut of fish or a large tray of raw oysters, this is probably not the place to go. But if you are more than open to an array of lightly breaded and fried options, this one sure won't disappoint. The word “oyster” is in the name of the eatery because it’s a favorite on the menu, as well as the gumbo, which has been voted a Destin favorite.
